Yankees Social Media Strategy

Why

People ask why organizations do social media campaigns and what impacts do these campaigns have on customer interaction with the brand. My social media campaign for the Yankees would be to get fans excited for the upcoming season and to promote their players. Due to the current conditions with COVID-19 it is going to be hard for the Yankees to sell tickets, but they must come up with a new form of revenue. This is where their social media strategy would come into play to get fans excited about the Yankees and spend money on the organization in other ways. For example, this would include TV revenue and expanding the Yankee brand online so fans can do shopping. When fans see pictures, videos, and GIFs of players it excites them and gives them hope for baseball to start. The Yankee brand can be scene everywhere in the world and for them to keep the brand at an elite level they must have a social media campaign that is above all other organizations.

Photos

The phots used in the campaign are key to grab the attention of the reader right away.  For sports teams specifically photos tell a story and the person looking at the photo can relate to it better than words can explain. A photo captures a thousand words and put them into a category that can not be duplicated by text. The look of the images that will be used in my campaign will be feel good photos that capture a story. A picture of Yankee players swinging the bat, a picture of Yankee Stadium at night capturing all 55,000 fans. These pictures are one of a kind and tell a story that cannot be expressed in words. The imagery connects with the brand because there is nothing like being a Yankee player or being in Yankee stadium for a game. The Yankees are on the top of the mountain when it comes to Major League Baseball and the photos that go with them are one of a kind.

Videos

The themes of the videos for the campaign will be motivational and inspirational for Yankee fans. In order to get fans excited for the season they must be motivated for what is to come in the future. Most videos will be between a minute and a minute thirty. I do not want the videos to be too long because people will lose interest if they go on for a long time. The general structure for videos would include updates on players for this season and players who are in the minor leagues waiting for their turn to play in the Major League. These videos would include highlights of past performances and wins to get people excited for upcoming games. Videos will also include the rich history of the Yankees which is where their brand was brought to life. Videos with information on players and team history will tap into the emotional side of fans and get them ready for the upcoming season where the Yankee brand can thrive above all others.

GIFs

GIFs can be used in different ways in order to have interactions with fans and players. They are a special part of social media now and can be used on almost any occasion. For example when a Yankee hits a home run or when they win a game there will be GIFs in place for people to express their emotions using different Yankees players faces or celebrations. The brand voice would be clear in the GIFs because the Yankees are about winning championships and these GIFs would resemble the Yankees winning. Players would be clapping, celebrating, or making spectacular plays all in line with the Yankees mission of winning a championship every year.

The Plan

The caption of my posts would be professional and be in line with the Yankees brand. Captions would include players names or nicknames and relate the the picture or video being posted. Hashtags would be included at the end of the post so the post could be trending if fans relate to the post on an emotional level. My mission of the caption and hashtags would be to motivate fans and use the same strategy as the photos or videos themselves. A hashtag would include, #bronxbombers, #YankeeWay, #WorldSeries, or #AYankeesW. I would want these hashtags and captions to relate to the Yankees winning culture that they strive for on a daily basis. Content would be posted multiple times a day on Twitter and Instagram because that is the Yankees two biggest followings. Interactions will be done by social media through messenger or by contacting the fan on a personal level. I would want to spread the Yankee content to as much people as possible as soon as possible. The results will be evaluated by the response of fans over social media. How many likes, retweets, or followers the page would get when the content is posted. The more people the better and having more people means that more content can be distributed. At the end of the day being able to connect with my audience on a personal level to motivate them for the Yankees season is the end goal and can be attained by having the right strategy to go with it.
